Trip Facts
Singu Chuli Peak Climbing Overview
Singu Chuli (6501m/21,328ft), also known as Fluted Peak, is located just west of Gangapurna in the Annapurna Himal. The first ascent complete by Wilf Noyce and David Cox from the Northeast face. Satori recommends this trek and climbs for anyone looking to satisfy their need for adventure and for anyone who enjoys excellent mountain views. Sing Chuli one of the more challenging 6000m peaks. This peak's Southeast face offers more technical climbing for experienced mountaineers looking for technical climbing at 6000m. The standard route up the Northeast front fixes two camps above bc and still promises a lot of challenge for mountaineers.
You will enjoy the great cultural diversity as you trek along the Landruk, Ghandruk, Chhomorong, and Ghorepani villages before entering the Fishtail (Machhapuchhare Base Camp) Annapurna Base Camp. The trek allows for panoramic views of the world's highest mountains.

Are they financially secured and environmentally conscious? We advise them to make sure about these formalities because there are some companies in Nepal that have been running business without abiding by the rules and regulation of the Government. Some companies were once registered but by now their licenses have already been expired and yet they have providing the services illegally.
On many occasions, Government of Nepal and Trekking Agency Association of Nepal have found that many foreigners’ tour operators, NGOs and INGOs have been involved in directly operating tours, trekking, and mountaineering holiday adventures without having government license and abiding by the Government rules. Singu Chuli Peak Climbing FAQs
Climbers choose any of the mountains in the Himalayas to begin Himalayan peak climbing journey which are technically easier than others. Each peak, however, has its own importance and unique characteristics.
Tharpu Chuli (5,663m /18,579 ft) – next to Singu Chuli in Annapurna Sanctuary – or Pisang Peak (6,091 m / 19,970 ft) in Manang valley of Annapurna region or Island Peak (6,189 m / 20,305 ft) and Mera Peak (6,476 m / 21,247 ft) in Everest region are some peaks beginners climb in the Himalayas with little or no prior climbing experiences. Singu Chuli (6,501 m / 21,328 ft) can be taken as beginners peak with technical and challenging essence.
Those who prefer completely non-technical climb, yet looking for gaining higher altitude summit experience, they choose like Mera Peak and Yala Peak whereas for some technical experience in the Himalayas Pisang peak, Singu Chuli, and Chulu West in Annapurna region and Island peak in Everest region are ideal.
There are many 6,000 m peaks scattered across different regions of the world – China/Tibet, India, Pakistan (Karakoram), South America (Andes), Europe and Russia (Caucasus), and Central Asia (Pamir). So, it is natural to wonder: Why choose Nepal for climbing a 6,000 m peak? Here, we give some key reasons why Nepal is one of the best destinations for a 6,000 m peak climbing experience.
First and foremost, Nepal is home to the world’s highest mountains, where eight of the fourteen 8,000 m peaks are located. The country also has more than 1,300 mountain peaks above 6,000 m. This offers a wide range of options at different difficulty levels – many of which are ideal for beginner and intermediate climbers.
The Government of Nepal has categorized several 6,000 m peaks as ‘trekking peaks,’ meaning they involve little or no technical climbing. Even peaks that require some technical skills are generally easier than many others around the world, making them excellent training grounds for future high-altitude expeditions.
Additionally, Nepal provides a streamlined permit system, world-renowned Sherpa climbing guides with exceptional expertise in safety and high-altitude terrain, and added charm of breathtaking natural beauty and rich cultural diversity throughout the journey – all of which make Nepalese mountains a premium climbing destination.
For all these reasons, Nepal is ideal place to begin your climbing adventure and take next step toward achieving your mountaineering dreams in the majestic Himalayas.
Singu Chuli also known as ‘Fluted Peak’ is challenging and technical peak. Steep rock and ice sections, sharp summit pyramid, mandatory use of technical equipment, objective hazards etcetera make this peak challenging. So, if you have some early climbing experience than this peak is good.
Access route to this peak is well established, with teahouse lodges available until very close to Base Camp along the famous Annapurna Base Camp or Annapurna Sanctuary trek trail.
This peak is for those seeking an introduction experience to Himalayan peak climbing, lower altitude with some technical essence and aiming to achieve big in future.
A mountain cannot be labeled as entirely ‘safe’ or ‘unsafe’ on its own. However, in general terms, there are few factors to consider for safety measures such as altitude of the peak, crevasses, avalanche risk, serac danger, exposure in higher altitudes, and rescue possibilities. The terrain and route to peak also make some differences.
If we check these parameters, Singu Chuli can rank comparatively safer peak but still need to be cautious as it is a technical peak.
Our claim is that, with support of experienced organizers and professional Sherpa guides, any peak can be climbed safely. Some issues to be taken into considerations are: proper acclimatization, pre-climbing training and fitness, basic know-how to use some climbing gears, quality equipment, expert Sherpa guide.
Singu Chuli is located within Annapurna Conservation Area in the Annapurna sanctuary. Majestic Himalayan peaks: Annapurna South and Himchuli are in south, Annapurna I in western flank, Annapurna III and Gangapurna on the north-east, and Machhapuchre on the east.
Well established and world renowned trekking trail – Annapurna Base Camp or Annapurna Sanctuary trek– not only makes this peak accessible but also scenic journey in the Himalayas.
Singu Chuli climbing begins from trekking to Annapurna Sanctuary trek. First you visit Annapurna Base Camp – south base camp of Annapurna I – and then climb down to Machhapuchhre Base Camp, and then hike to Singu Chuli Base camp at 4,800 m (15,748 ft).
There is high camp at 5,500 m (16,076 ft) and Camp II at 5,800 m (19,028 ft) from where you climb to summit and return to Base camp again. Altitude of campsite can vary ±50-70 m while finding suitable and safe location.
Some Himalayan peaks around 6,000 m are categorized as trekking peaks by Nepal government. This means they are smaller and generally easier to climb compared to dozens of 7,000 m and 8,000 m peaks in the country.
Although Singu Chuli is under trekking peak, it is a technical and difficult to many trekking peaks, and required rock and ice climbing skills.
In terms of physical difficulty, this climb is moderate to challenging, depending on your strength and stamina. The summit day can take 12-14 hours, often in thin air, across snow slopes, and in cold temperatures. Descent can also be substantially demanding as you will be tired already from the climbing.
Altitude can pose some challenge as well. Even fit climbers may experience breathlessness, fatigue, and symptoms of AMS (Acute Mountain Sickness). It can be placed in Alpine grading AD+ (Assez Difficile plus – Fairly Difficult plus) category.
You need to have a good cardiovascular fitness with a capacity of hiking 6-8 hrs. a day on steep trails with backpack. Summit day is long with 12-14 hrs of walking over rough moraines and rocky terrain, snow slopes, and hard ice around summit headwall. Though not very steep, still moderate steep ascent and demanding descents must be done. Your body should adapt well in the higher altitude with proper acclimatization.
Climbing Kilimanjaro (5,895 m/ 19,341ft) means you have already been to an altitude of Singu Chuli and have experience of high altitude, long summit day, and demanding downhill descent. This background is extremely helpful for acclimatization and building confidence needed to attempt Singu Chuli (6,501 m/18,563 ft), which is even lower than Kilimanjaro.
However, Singu Chuli involves additional technical and weather challenges of Himalayas. You will need to use technical mountaineering gears such as crampons, a harness, an ice axe, fixed ropes near the summit, and Jumar – all of which are not required on Kilimanjaro.
Conditions on Singu Chuli, next to high altitude peaks can be much colder, windier, and more exposed than Kili. The summit day from High Camp is also usually longer and more physically demanding than on Kilimanjaro. But, your experience in Kili will be definitely beneficial to successful climb of Singu Chuli peak.
Singu Chuli is technical peak; thus it is a serious climb in the Himalayas. Prior mountaineering experience is basically required to climb Singu Chuli. And, previous trekking or climbing experience at higher elevations of 4,000-5,000 meters (in the Himalayas or elsewhere) is highly beneficial, as it can make acclimatization easier.
You will encounter gentle slopes up to approximately 45-60° in the summit headwall and 35-45° in lower sections. There is occasional rope climbing in lower sections and mandatory rope climbing in the summit pyramid and before. And, you need to climb in a steep snow and ice section with rock band mixed.
As a novice climber, long summit days, fatigue, wind, temperature can be challenging along with technical climbing. So, our Sherpa guides provide training at Base Camp to help you handle these safely and comfortably. Your physical fitness, endurance, and positive attitude are enough to make the climb successful.
Having some basic mountaineering skills and knowledge of climbing equipment – such as use of crampons, an ice axe, fixed ropes, and ascenders (Jumar), as well as basic descending or rappelling techniques – will also be helpful. Our Sherpa guide, at Base Camp will conduct a short training session on use of climbing equipment required for your summit bid.
In addition, good physical fitness, supported by regular cardio training (running, cycling, hiking), strength training (legs, core, back), and strong mental endurance in extreme conditions, will greatly increase your chances of a successful and safe summit.
As mentioned above, Singu Chuli and other 6,000 m peaks are not easy climbs in the Himalayas as conditions are different here from your home country. Many of our clients attempting these climbs are cyclists, runners, and fitness enthusiasts. To prepare your body, it is recommended to follow a 2-3 months training plan before the expedition. Focus on cardiovascular exercises such as running, cycling, swimming, and stair climbing.
In addition, your legs, core, and upper body should be well-conditioned, as climbing involves ascending and descending steep slopes during the summit push. Since you will also need to carry a backpack with water, snacks, and some climbing gears, it is required to practice hiking or training with a loaded backpack to simulate real conditions.
If you are thinking of just climb days, it is ten days’ task from Base camp to high camp - summit and then descend to tea house in Machhapuchre Base Camp/Dovan. If your curiosity is for whole trip days, our program is of 25 days starting and ending in Kathmandu combined with Annapurna trek. In addition, 2-4 days for your travel to Kathmandu and return to your home should be added depending upon your location. So, in total it can be 27-28 days.
For a successful and safe expedition, choosing an experienced service provider is one of the most vital steps. A company with certified and experienced guides, strong safety standards, and well-planned itineraries is essential when selecting your climbing partner.
In Nepal, more than 1,700 trekking companies are registered and licensed to offer 6,000-meter peak climbing services, but only about 30 companies operate regular expeditions to these 6,000-meter peaks. You have to, thus, be careful while choosing the right company. And, we are proud to be one of those 30 companies and assure that you are in right hand.
If you are embarking on a climbing journey of the Himalayan peaks beginning with Singu Chuli, choosing right company makes all the difference. Satori Adventures for some reasons will be your best partner.
As mentioned above, out of more than 1,700 trekking companies in Nepal registered only 30 companies operate 6,000 m peaks expedition services regularly. We are proud to be one of these 30 companies and have consistently been offering safe, reliable, and professionally guided climbing expeditions.
We are a homegrown expedition operator from Nepal, with all professional climbing guides born and raised in the Himalayas.
